Repairs to Gunamu Tourist Park

After the flood, Timber Creek, Northern Territory

About the project

For this project, METIO is working with Gunamu Aboriginal Corporation in Timber Creek (traditionally known as Makalamayi, on the lands of Ngaliwurru and Nungali people) in the Northern Territory. Gunamu owns and operates the only Indigenous-owned campground and accommodation in Timber Creek: Gunamu Tourist Park.

In 2022 and 2023 the site was badly flooded by cyclones, and the park has been closed since then. The project plans to repair the water supply and electrical system for the caravan and camp sites, and at the same time undertake small-scale upgrades.

METIO’s role has been project development, grant applications and project management. The project is now fully funded.
