Gunamu cultural and business precinct

Timber Creek, NT, Australia

About the project

METIO is working with Gunamu Aboriginal Corporation to study the feasibility of building a cultural and business precinct (Gunamu precinct) in Timer Creek, in the lands of Ngaliwurru and Nungali people.

The Gunamu precinct will be a facility for people and organisations to come together under one roof. Its purpose is to provide Timber Creek community with a facility that will contribute to strengthening culture, creating sustainable jobs and supporting local arts.

This facility will give Timber Creek community, businesses and organisations access to facilities and services that aren’t currently available in the area. It aims to be a space for people to gather, connect, share, learn, and grow. The precinct will have a strong business focus but and an equal community development focus. The two main components of the project are:

  • Create a business precinct to support existing and new businesses with a conference room, meeting and office spaces, catering, and accommodation for business visitors.

  • Create a cultural precinct to promote local culture and country with an art studio, exhibition area and shop. The facility will also have a cultural tourism centre that will offer the incoming tourists new opportunities to learn about the country, its people and its culture.

  • The project will also, make improvements to the existing tourist park and the connection with the existing shop, caffee to the new precinct.
