About the project
METIO is collaborating with Kupungarri Aboriginal Corporation to develop the Kupungarri Retreat, a modern accommodation facility at Mt Barnett Roadhouse. This initiative aims to provide high-quality lodging for tourists traveling the Gibb River Road, as well as essential service providers in the region. The project focuses on creating sustainable, climate-resilient, and culturally sensitive accommodations that reflect the unique environment and heritage of the Kupungarri community.
The retreat will offer a variety of lodging choices, including family cabins, single-room cabins, and self-contained rooms, catering to diverse visitor needs.
Project development
METIO is leading the project's development, including facilitating community consultations, engaging consultants, and identifying funding opportunities. The project is currently in the concept design stage, with efforts underway to secure financial support and finalize designs that meet both community aspirations and regulatory standards. Troppo architects are leading the design of this project.
