Punmu new classrooms

Punmu community, Martu Country, East Pilbara, Western Australia

About the project

This project will deliver modern, culturally appropriate learning spaces to support the education of Martu students in the Punmu community. These classrooms are designed to foster two-way learning, where Martu cultural knowledge and Western education intersect to empower the next generation.

EIW Architects designed the buildings to meet the unique climate needs of the Punmu community, ensuring both functionality and sustainability.

METIO is leading the project's development, including facilitating community consultations, grant writing, and managing the planning and design process. With funds now secured, and Development Approval received, construction is planned to commence in 2025.
